RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Certification via RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
Taking Into Account Your Wealth of Experience

Unlike the usual requirements for entry to a given program of study, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) takes into account not only the formal study that an individual may have undertaken, but also any relevant training that they may have done whilst at work, community involvement, home and life experiences. If their prior learning shows they can achieve the learning outcomes of a Unit of Competency, they may be assessed on that learning and given credit for the unit in a given course.
The RPL process is designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of people and can be adapted to specific groups or individuals; it does not rely on the written word and is an interactive process between the applicant and assessor.
The Courses
Soarent offers two courses of study.
- 30897QLD Diploma in Business Improvement Leadership (Green Belt)
- 30898QLD Advanced Diploma in Business Improvement Leadership (Black Belt)
These courses comprise a total of 23 units of competency.
- Diploma level = 12 units
- Advanced Diploma level = 11 units
Recognising Experience
We recognise that individuals bring to the learning situation a diversity of life experiences and a broad frame of reference. Learning throughout life is heavily based upon hands on experience which assists us in achieving business, social and family goals. Thus, Recognition of Prior Learning plays an important part in our training and evaluation process.
Who Can Apply for RPL?
If you have ...
- completed formal Lean and Six Sigma education;
- applied Lean and Six Sigma methodologies in a work environment; and
- led / facilitated a project that has generated an auditable return to the business through the DMAIC process ...
... you are in a position to pursue certification via RPL.
What is the scope of RPL?
You can pursue RPL for a WHOLE COURSE or INDIVIDUAL UNITS within the course of study. In deciding whether you may be given CREDIT FOR A UNIT, the following will be considered:
- Is your prior learning relevant to the course you have made an application for RPL?
- Is your level of knowledge and skills current? Fields of study change so rapidly that a skill achieved in the past may no longer be relevant or acceptable.
- Is it transferable? A skill should be applicable to a number of settings and situations.
- Is it authentic? You will need to provide authentic and proven evidence, or alternatively demonstrate that you have knowledge and skill in the given area.
- Is your knowledge and skill appropriate to the level of the unit or course?
What fees are applicable to RPL?
These qualifications can equate to 2/3 of a BACHELOR DEGREE. RPL certification fees are calculated at a rate of $150 per unit of competency.
